Today we're sharing Joey & Robins day. Their wedding was special for so many reasons but also very special to us because it was the first wedding we were asked to do before we were "Arrow & Knot Productions" So, here is the story of how Arrow & Knot came to be, and why filming and editing Joey & Robin's wedding video was so meaningful to us.
Last March we asked a dear friend if we could film her event, a sweet little trade show called the HFX Indie Wedding Social. She not only let us (two Journalism students with only news story videos as work to show) she became a mentor to us, and we're forever grateful for her support and guidance.
We immediately drove back to what we call "the edit classroom" at the NSCC Waterfront Campus, after filming the event. We became obsessed with every detail and emotion that we filmed. We were hooked. We showed our Television instructor, Steve Melanson, what we were working on. He stood behind us, like he has so many times before, with a critical eye, but this time he didn't have any critiques. Instead he said "do you want your first job?" That first job was his son Joeys wedding. Of course we took it! In that moment, we knew that we could take everything we learned during our time in the Radio & Television Arts Program, and put it into a successful and viable business. So, in the span of one week we decided that we were entrepreneurs.
We are so thankful for the guidance of Steve, who taught us everything we know about shooting and editing, our journalism instructor Erin Moore, for teaching us how to be great storytellers, and Dave Bannerman for teaching us to always keep our levels between -3 and -3, and making us do beat mixes every Friday, because we've literarily done one in every video we've produced so far (corporate videos included!)
You never know where life will take you. Arrow & Knot Productions sets our souls on fire. While we each have other passions, like working on freelance journalism, or pursuing a passion for Olympic weightlifting, we have a foundation of something that will last, something that makes us happy and fulfilled, and most importantly, something that's special and timeless for each and every one of our clients (who are the best clients ever, by the way)
Robin & Joey had the sweetest little wedding. Robin's girls were dressed in polka dots with pin-up style hair. Robin made a classic red-lip vintage bride, she was seriously stunning.
Their wedding was a labour of love, and a family affair in every way possible. Robin's brother cooked up a storm of hors d'oeuvres all night, while doing double duty as a groomsmen. Our talented friend Nic Meloney, who is a current student in the Radio and Television Arts program, was a tremendous help to us this day, we look forward to seeing what big things he will do! Joey's sister Alicia did the amazing hair and make-up, while his other sister Julie snapped photos all night (we've linked their incredible work below)
So, without further ado, take a peek at Robin & Joeys video!
